Mystic Goddess

* Magick
Pagan & Witchcraft

Magick: There are many different ways to define Magick.....and many different ways to perceive it. Magick is a state of mind.....Magick is all around us, and within us. It radiates in all things that live and die. It can be felt in a baby's first breath and in the changing of the seasons. It is a part of the Earth, the mysterious ocean, and the starlit heavens above us. There is magick in love and in dreams.

The dictionary calls it "the art of persons who claim to be able to do things by the help of supernatural powers or by their own knowledge of nature's secrets." Although Magick might appear to be "supernatural", it is a power or force that is quite natural. Magick is a wondrous energy that is raised through various means (ie; meditation, chanting, dancing, ritual) and then physically directed at a specific goal - to heal an illness, attract love, or remedy a bad situation. (The tools of the Craft are merely "props" serving as sources to help focus power.)

Magick is "the use of will to effect some desired change"; therefore, any open-minded person who possesses the ability to focus and concentrate their will is capable of working successful Magick.....

Witchcraft: (Wicca or the Craft) A nature-centered religion which honors a Goddess and usually a God, and uses Magick as a tool. Generalizations are difficult to make when describing Wicca or other Pagan religions, since there is no doctrine and individuals are encouraged to find their own path. It is characterized by a deep respect for all living things, acceptance of personal and social responsibility, attunement to natural rhythms, healing, achieving balance between all aspects of the self and society. It is a positive, life-affirming spirituality. It draws on religious, political, and scientific traditions throughout history.

It is believed that the word "witch" comes from the Germanic root "wic", meaning "to turn" or "to bend".  Many Wiccans prefer the terms "priest" or "priestess". Many consider the healers, midwives, and village wisewomen of the past to be their predecessors.

The single most important element is their adherence to the Wiccan Rede: "If it harm  none, do what you will." This maxim encourages personal freedom within the context of community. Many also believe in the Law of Threes or the Law of Return, which states that every energy sent forward, returns to them threefold. One of the most common teachings in the Craft is to love and respect life in all its forms.

Rituals are performed to mark natural transitions, such as the lunar phases, equinoxes, solstices, and use ritual to attune to natural rhythms and give thanks for the bounty of the Earth. Rituals usually involve the consecration of space (usually a circle), honoring of the four elements, invocation of deities, and food. Within the circle, power is raised for healing or other forms of magick. It is believed that divinity resides within and can be accessed through the self, and respect one another accordingly.

Paganism: Most American Pagans practice a blend of different traditions, the most popular of which are Celtic, Native American, Kabbalah, Witchcraft, Shamanism, Druidism, Greco-Roman, Ancient Egyptian and Norse. It is a broad, eclectic contemporary religious movement that encompasses shamanistic, ecstatic, polytheistic, and magical religions. Most of the religions termed Pagan are characterized by nature-centered spirituality, honoring of pre-Christian deities, dynamic, personal belief systems, lack of institutionalization, a quest to develop the self, and acceptance and encouragement of diversity. It is sometimes referred to as Neo-Paganism to emphasize its connections to as well as difference from pre-Christian religions.

The Pagan movement has become somewhat coherent largely through networks, journals, and festivals. But it is not unified or structured - herein lies its greatest appeal. Pagans believe profoundly in freedom and the power of the individual. People are encouraged to explore paths that are most helpful to them, rather than conform to a specific code of beliefs. Many traditions celebrate rituals to mark transitions in the natural world, such as solstices, lunar phases, or a birth, as well as in a person's life, such as marriage or moving to a new home.

Kathi will guide you into the lifestyle, mind set, and religious dedication to spiritual growth that lie at the heart of this life-transforming practice. She talks about developing a relationship with the Deities, for that is the very soul of Wicca. Learning to honor the Gods and Goddesses through study, meditation or other forms of ritual dedication opens direct communication, that leads to ever-increasing levels of healing and guidance.
